Towards a European Initiative for media pluralism: conclusions and follow up

The work conference “Towards a European Initiative on Media Pluralism”, held on March 31st at the European Parliament, has shown the will of the four European parliament ary groups that supported the event (S&D, ALDE, Greens/EFA, GUE/NGL) to work to develop the capacity of the European Union to develop the necessary instruments to protect the independence and pluralism of the media in all member states.

The 39 invited participants, representing an equal number of national and international organisations, have expressed the necessity of an intervention of the European Union in this area with the capacity of sanctioning evident violations of the fundamental right to a free and pluralistic information.
