23–25 May 2025 | Vienna, Austria
The Democratic Odyssey is a groundbreaking campaign advocating for the creation of a permanent People’s Assembly for Europe. After stops in Athens and Florence, the journey culminated in Vienna, where 231 participants from 27 countries came together to deliberate, co-create, and imagine new democratic futures.
Over three days, citizens engaged in participatory workshops, civic arts interventions, and intense group discussions to finalize the Citizens’ Charter to Revitalise Democracy in Europe by Navigating Future Crises Together. This charter, shaped by voices from across Europe, presents ten powerful pathways to strengthen democratic participation, collective care, transparency, and more.
The Vienna Assembly also launched the Citizen Council, a new body tasked with ensuring the continued momentum of this citizen-led movement toward institutional change.
Simultaneous interpretation, artistic performances, and multilingual dialogue all contributed to an inclusive and transformative space, showing that transnational democracy is not just possible, it’s already happening.
