Global Players: EA art residency in Chongqing

global2

As part of our project Transnational Dialogues, promoting exchange between young cultural innovators across China, Europe, and Brazil, we are happy to announce an artist residency organised in Chongqing, China, for June 2014. The residency is part of the caravan to China  taking place between May 27 and June 8

Departing from the logic of global acting enterprises with dependences in a strategic network of different time zones, languages and geographical hotspots – Global Players – will in a one month residency involve artists, curators and researchers from China, Brazil and EU in a tricontinental and experimental network project. A  group of artists and researchers will stay for a one month residency in Chongqing, China and bring together the contributions from the three participating continents with research and visualizations on the topic of globalization and how this is inscribed in the participating cities. Performative and visual research will be mixed with discussions, written exchange, SKYPE conferences and virtual work presentations.

The main idea is that the current state of the projects process will be forwarded to a next timezone. This way the project is in constant moove and brings together the different spatial typologies (global and virtual) taking in consideration the very different social realities of the participating cities. The project is a transcontinental artistic experiment that unites, discusses and negotiates the opportunities linked to the issue of globalization for a younger generation by making use of technological innovations.

Global Players is designed and curated by Artoholics – tracing on social, cultural and urban phenomena taking place in the framework of Transnational Dialogues 2014. It is supported by theGoethe-Institut Chinaorganhouse Art SpaceInternational Fund of the British Council and Arts Council England and the Bundeskamzleramt Österreich – Kunst. The resident participants in Chongqing, China are Laura Engelhardt (GER), Christopher Kieling (GER), Nina Gschloessl (GER). Seila Fernandez Arconada (ES) and Petra Poelzl (AU).
