Assemblies of Solidarity

Assemblies of Solidarity is a citizens-led engagement and communications project, aiming at connecting groups that are disproportionately affected by Covid-19. The project consists of a series of assemblies made by and for citizens, to raise awareness on key topics revolving around three main pillars:

  1. Democracy and fundamental rights
  2. Social Europe and Health
  3. Environment and climate change

Because the actions of the EP affect people throughout Europe in different ways in their everyday lives, the multi-generational citizens’ assemblies will deliberate on key policy areas that are strategic for both citizens and the European Parliament. The project will result in the co-creation of a feedback mechanism between EU citizens and the EP, a package of petitions to promote the right to petition and other participatory democracy tools (ie. petitions, ECIs, freedom of information requests and other tools).

We believe that European democracy must be based on innovative engagement formats, fostering the relationships and dialogue between citizens throughout Europe and their capacity to give useful inputs, reports and testimonies that can help European decision makers develop more informed policies.

The Assemblies of Solidarity will take place in 10 countries (Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Romania), where participants will embark on a journey of deliberations and develop creative  and innovative formats of engagement, culminating at the TRANSEUROPA Festival.

The project is coordinated by European Alternatives, the Citizens Take Over Europe coalition, and their member’s network which brings together more than 50 civil society organisations from across Europe to prepare for and engage with the Conference on the Future of Europe.
