European Citizens’ Initiative approved

On Wednesday 15th of December 2010, the European Parliament has approved the binding procedural rules for the European Citizens' Initiative. 
Thanks to this decision, the European citizens will have the possibility to directly taking part in the affairs of the European Union, closing the gap between the population and the institutions. 

The ECI will enable one million citizens from at least 9 different member states to call directly to the European Commission to bring forward an initiative of interest to them in an area of EU competence.
