Open Call for Facilitators – Citizens’ Assembly on AI and Border Control (Athens)

As part of the Democratic Digital Commons project, we are looking for facilitators for an in-person Citizens’ Assembly on AI and Border Control, taking place in Athens on 10 October 2026, within the Transeuropa Festival Reclaiming the Cloud(s).

This assembly will bring together people with diverse backgrounds to explore one of the most pressing and sensitive uses of Artificial Intelligence today: how AI shapes migration, border management, surveillance, and access to rights. The conversations will touch on lived experiences, power, discrimination, technology, and democracy, requiring facilitators who can create spaces of trust, care, and meaningful dialogue.

We are particularly looking for facilitators who have lived experience as migrants or refugees, or who have worked closely with communities affected by border regimes, AI, migration, or human rights. We also welcome facilitators with experience in deliberative democracy, community organising, or participatory processes. While you do not need to be a technical expert in AI, you should feel confident facilitating complex conversations, navigating sensitive topics with empathy, and ensuring that every participant has the opportunity to contribute.

Facilitators are expected to attend:

→ A facilitation training on 17 September 2026, where you will be introduced to the methodology of citizen assemblies, a transcultural inclusive facilitation approach, and partake in an infosession on the assembly thematics, taking place at the Greek Forum of Migrants in Athens.

→ The in-person Assembly in Athens on 10 October 2026.

Facilitators will receive €250 + expenses (local transport tickets, lunch, etc) for their participation, covering the training, preparation, facilitation of the Assembly, and a short feedback process afterwards.
