Youth Activism Against Discrimination and Racism in Europe

Objective

TACKLE aims to empower young activists across Europe to fight against structural racism and discrimination, fostering the emergence of a new generation of “equality advocates.” Through education, capacity building, and advocacy, the project seeks to promote a more inclusive society that upholds human rights and tackles local and global inequalities.

Why It Matters

Europe continues to face significant challenges related to racism, xenophobia, and discrimination, particularly toward individuals of Arab-Muslim and African descent. With growing concerns over migration policies and rising nationalist sentiments, it is essential to amplify the voices of young people and victims of discrimination to create meaningful, systemic change. TACKLE addresses these issues head-on, fostering solidarity and collaboration between youth in Europe and the southern Mediterranean.

What We Do
  • Capacity Building: TACKLE trains university students and young activists through legal clinics, equipping them with the skills and knowledge to support victims of discrimination and lead advocacy campaigns. These legal clinics, located in universities across Europe, provide hands-on experience and foster a commitment to social justice.
  • Anti-Discrimination Initiatives: The project establishes Anti-Discrimination Points (ADPs) within legal clinics to offer free legal advice and services to victims of racial, ethnic, and religious discrimination. These ADPs not only assist victims but also serve as data collection hubs, helping to document incidents of discrimination and inform future advocacy efforts.
  • Public Campaigns: Ahead of the European Parliament elections in 2024, TACKLE will lead an advocacy campaign focused on mobilizing citizens and engaging candidates on issues of equality, migration, and anti-racism. The campaign will include local outreach efforts, public events, and digital campaigns designed to raise awareness and demand policy changes.
  • Advocacy and Engagement: By fostering dialogue between youth activists, victims of discrimination, and policymakers, TACKLE aims to influence decision-making processes at both the national and European levels. Advocacy tours and evidence-based policy briefs will ensure that the voices of marginalized communities are heard and that meaningful action is taken.
Impact

Through its multifaceted approach, TACKLE directly engages over 150 students per year, handles over 300 cases of racial discrimination annually, and influences public discourse around equality. By connecting young activists across the Mediterranean and Europe, the project contributes to a broader movement towards justice, equality, and human rights.
