European Alternatives is looking for a Project coordinator to join our team

The European Alternatives (EA) association is looking for a project coordinator for a European action-research project (Horizon Europe) on feminist and anti-gender movements in France and on a transnational scale.

As project coordinator, you will be included in the EA team, a European association made up of people committed to democracy, equality and culture beyond the nation-state, feminist and anti-racist activists and interdisciplinary and international researchers. European Alternatives works across Europe to imagine, demand and enact alternatives for a sustainable future, and is committed to intersectional feminism.

You will be in charge of certain elements of the FIERCE (Feminist Movement Revitalizing Democracy in Europe) action-research project. Funded by the European Commission, this project builds bridges between democratic institutions, civil society and local feminist movements. Its aim is to strengthen the fight against anti-gender movements. You will then be called upon to help launch other projects, notably on masculinism and the fight against discrimination.

The role of project coordinator includes:

  • Organizing face-to-face and online meetings of a European feminist network. Supporting feminist action and creating dialogue between movements in France and Europe.
  • Planning and carrying out actions (“Fierce Actions”) with French feminists fighting against anti-gender groups.
  • Writing of analysis reports on project activities in English.
  • Drafting, layout, publication and promotion of policy briefs for Members of the European Parliament and support for feminist advocacy work with European elected representatives.
  • Contribution to bi-monthly meetings in English with the international research consortium of gender studies academics. Where necessary, travel to face-to-face meetings.
  • Occasional participation in other European Alternatives projects, in particular the annual Transeuropa festival (Venice: November 6-10, 2024).
  • If necessary: Making appointments for interviews with French feminists that will be recorded and carrying out their transcription.

Profile

  • Down-to-earth person, enjoying setting up projects and monitoring their completion through the use of project monitoring tools, appreciating logistical and management tasks.
  • Person with bi-national experience and a good understanding of the challenges of working in a multi-cultural and multilingual team.
  • Committed to the rights of gender minorities, if possible with knowledge of gender studies (or a good understanding of issues related to intersectionality and feminism).
  • Previous experience in an association / NGO will be valued, in particular an activist profile on feminism-related issues with knowledge of the French feminist associative landscape.
  • Based in Ile de France
  • With a professional command of French and English (spoken and written). Proficiency in a third foreign language will be appreciated.
  • Independent, autonomous, but used to working with others.
  • Taste for dialogue to maintain permanent contact with representatives of social movements.

Working conditions

  • Full-time position or 4 days/week, fixed-term contract for 12 months, to be filled from August 19, 2024.
  • You will work under the supervision of the association’s directors.
  • Gross annual salary 28.000 and 32.000 euros for a full-time position, depending on experience and pro rata working time. Restaurant card ticket.
  • European Alternatives is headquartered in Paris. The person recruited will be expected to spend at least 3 days a week in the office.
  • Frequent travel in Europe is to be expected.

Diversity: EA is an equal opportunities employer and particularly encourages applications from candidates with diverse backgrounds, training and professional experience. We recognize that people from under-represented backgrounds are not sufficiently included in the NGO sector, and we are firmly committed to doing what we can to rectify this. If you feel that such opportunities are less available to you, please apply and let us know.

Application: Send CV + covering letter detailing experience and knowledge in feminist activism. Send an email with the title “Project Coordinator” to info@euroalter.com

Applications will be considered as they are received. Ideally, application received by August 10, 2024. Start date: As soon as possible, potentially from August 19, 2024.
