With our European Initiative for Media Pluralism we are asking the enforcement of clear rules and transparent criteria for appointment to the antitrust communications authorities. Now you can demand this too by signing the Initiative.

Media regulators across Europe should have be tasked with protecting pluralism and fair competition between media groups, and to ensure the fundamental freedoms of their citizens.

To ensure full independence, members of national authorities should be appointed through democratic and transparent procedures, and should be representative, in a proportionate and balanced way, of political bodies, of sectors of the economy and of the public. The appointment must comply with stringent rules on incompatibility and the criteria of professionalism and expertise in the media.

Sign up to support the creation of a network of supervisory authorities across Europe to facilitate the exchange of best practice and to help the process of harmonization of national legislation.
