Jelena Vasiljević is a Senior Research Associate at the Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory, University of Belgrade. Her background is in political anthropology and citizenship studies. Her expertise and research interests include theories of citizenship, citizenship transformations in the post-Yugoslav states, memory politics, civic engagement, and social movements in South-East Europe. Presently, she is primarily interested in theories and practices of solidarity. She was an expert member of The Balkans in Europe Policy Advisory Group (BiEPAG). Currently, she also serves as a Belgrade city councilor.
Dobrica Veselinović was born in 1981 in Belgrade, where he lived his entire life. He graduated from the First Belgrade High School and the Faculty of Political Sciences in Belgrade. Attended a large number of summer schools, seminars and debates in the country and abroad, and held the same number of lectures and presentations. He has been active in the civil sector for more than 15 years. In the last few years, he primarily deals with issues of urban development and fights for public spaces and public and common goods. He is the initiator of the Ministry of Space collective, Ne davimo Beograd, and green left coalition “Moramo”. His areas of interest are: political theory, ecology and issues of urban development. Currently part of Small council of Ne davimo Beograd, and head of Ne davimo Beograd group in Belgrade city assembly. Initiator of Green left front, new green political party in Serbia.
This event is part of the program of D.E.M.O. (Democracy, Elections, Mentorship, Organizing) by European Alternatives.
The “D.E.M.O.” project aims to encourage and facilitate the active engagement of a wide network of European citizens through both capacity-building & citizens’ engagement actions, in the context of the upcoming 2024 European Elections. It will provide 50 change-makers from at least 8 countries (Austria, Bulgaria, Czechia, Greece, Slovakia, Slovenia, Romania, Sweden and others) – with the necessary tools to re-imagine democracy in their local communities and to encourage democratic participation.
