New Challenges on the Urban Periphery<\/strong> was a project using the concepts of co-creation, a research method using creativity to co-produce knowledge with academics, communities and creative practitioners, in the context of\u00a0urban marginality and Paris banlieues.<\/span><\/p>\n

The funding of this project marked the 10 year anniversary of Christina Horvath and Juliet Carpenter establishing the Banlieue Network in 2012, and follows an international research project<\/a> across the EU and Latin American which developed this Co-Creation method to address stigmatisation around urban disadvantage. \u00a0You can read more about it in this book<\/a> and this article<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

New Challenges on the Urban Periphery consisted of the following events:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. A one-day seminar: \u201cNew Challenges in the Urban Periphery\u201d, Paris, Monday 27th March 2023<\/strong>.<\/strong> This was a one-day hybrid seminar (in person in Paris, with online participation options via Zoom), to bring together the original members of Banlieue Network (2012-2014), with other researchers with related interests, to exchange and discuss recent research in the field of Banlieue Studies.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. A program of free creative writing workshops held in Greater Paris, during June, with writers Insa San\u00e9 and Mabrouk Rachedi. <\/strong>These free workshops were aimed at young people who want to improve their writing skills, with a choice of a writing and slam or prose writing courses.<\/li>\n
  3. A \u201cCo-Creative Festival\u201d held in Saint-Denis, Greater Paris, from 29th June to 2nd July 2023: \u201cLiteratures in Margins\u201d.<\/strong> Inspired by Rio\u2019s \u2018Literary Festival of the Urban Peripheries\u2019 (FLUP) in Brazil, this Co-creation event brings together researchers, writers and artists, practitioners and broader audiences to explore the concept of marginality and stigmatisation, in the context of creative practice.   4. An event in autumn 2023, in Saint-Ouen, Greater Paris,<\/strong>\u00a0to reflect on learnings from the New Challenges project in relation to present contexts, and to reprogram our artists of the Festival.
