\"Education\"In our survey on how young people cope with making a living, we started out analysing how important young people value \u00a0particular principles from\u00a0finding a place they can call their own<\/a>\u00a0to\u00a0giving a helping hand<\/a>. But what about their basic living situation?<\/p>\n

The majority of people who participated in the survey have a Masters.\u00a0How does this compare with the the European average?\u00a0<\/strong>Over seven in ten of our respondents had\u00a0achieved a university qualification whereas\u00a0half that\u00a0<\/a>number\u00a0have achieved this across Europe.<\/a><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"Living\"The clear majority\u00a0live with other people<\/strong>, whether that\u2019s with their friends, partners or parents\/relatives. In many cases, they depend on others for a place to stay because they can\u2019t afford to pay the rent \u2013 such as sofasurfing at their friends or staying in the room they grow up in with their parents. This compares withfour in ten young people across Europe<\/a>\u00a0who felt that their\u00a0peers couldn’t afford to leave their family home<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Almost\u00a0half of respondents are in full time work<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 which is\u00a0an encouraging sign \u2013 although close to\u00a0two thirds of those are in precarious work<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 either temporary work or in two or more jobs. How does this compare with Eurostat?<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"Work\"Close to a third started work over five years ago which can be explained both by the relatively old average of the respondents and the fact that many will have started work in their teens.<\/div>\n

This disproves the myth that young people are inexperienced or perhaps it\u2019s that\u00a0their experience in the type jobs they do have in their teens are not sufficiently valued or profiled by recruiters or even jobseekers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
