Now you can demand this too by signing the Initiative.<\/p>\nMedia regulators across Europe should have be tasked with protecting pluralism and fair competition between media groups, and to ensure the fundamental freedoms of their citizens.<\/p>\n
To ensure full independence, members of national authorities should be appointed through democratic and transparent procedures, and should be representative, in a proportionate and balanced way, of political bodies, of sectors of the economy and of the public. The appointment must comply with stringent rules on incompatibility and the criteria of professionalism and expertise in the media.<\/p>\n
