Together, we care.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Event at Funkhaus, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/place\/\/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x476d077f32776947:0x31580bb242c59edb?sa=X&amp;ved=1t:8290&amp;ictx=111\">Argentinierstra\u00dfe 30A, 1040 Wien, Austria<\/a>&nbsp; \u2013 23 May 2025<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLScn6eKt21fKE4zDyreR343ZQ0Jwc-7ylhYandfjwCcIgTI8kw\/viewform?usp=header\"><strong>Registration form<\/strong><\/a><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Overview<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018Democracy as a collective act of care\u2019 is a complementary event to the <a href=\"https:\/\/democratic-odyssey.k8s.osp.cat\/assemblies\/Vienna?locale=de\">Democratic Odyssey\u2019s Vienna Assembly<\/a>, designed to highlight the lived experiences of systemic crises through the lens of grassroots movements, collective action and contested democratic spaces.\u00a0 By grounding the broader deliberations of the Assembly in real-world struggles, the event amplifies voices often pushed to the margins of institutional politics, fostering a deeper sense of urgency and care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event will be hosted at <strong>Funkhaus Wien<\/strong>, a location of profound historical resonance. As the former broadcasting center during one of Austria\u2019s most turbulent political eras, the Funkhaus stands as a reminder of both the power and vulnerability of communication in democratic life. Once a target of insurgents during the July Putsch of 1934 and later absorbed into Nazi propaganda machinery, this space has witnessed the instrumentalization of media in times of authoritarianism. Hosting the event here is a deliberate gesture: reclaiming a space once used to suppress dissent and turning it into a site for dialogue, resistance, and reimagining democracy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The programme from the Democratic Odyssey will feature two panels:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Assemblies from the Margins<\/strong>: This conversation explores how participatory practices emerge in contexts of resistance and transformation\u2014such as the protests in Serbia, the autonomous experiments in Rojava, or universities as spaces for assembly and dissent.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Rethinking Participation<\/strong>: This panel brings together local institutions and initiatives, including the Vienna Office for Participation, the initiative advocating for voting rights for non-citizens, and representatives from the Festwochen Citizens\u2019 Council, to reflect on how participation can be expanded, reimagined, and made more inclusive.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Event Breakdown<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>18:00 \u2013 19:00<\/strong><strong><br><\/strong><strong>Living Together in Freedom<\/strong><br>Lena Wilderbach \u2013 Jineoloj\u00ee Center<br><em>In collaboration with Wiener Festwochen<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What does love have to do with revolution? Rooted in the Kurdish women&#8217;s movement, the concept of <em>Hevjiyana Azad<\/em>\u2014living together in freedom\u2014offers a radical rethinking of relationships as the foundation for social transformation. This workshop invites us to imagine new relational forms as antidotes to crises of violence, exploitation, and disconnection.<br><a href=\"https:\/\/www.festwochen.at\/en\/living-together-in-freedom\">More info<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>18:00 \u2013 19:00<\/strong><strong><br><\/strong><strong>Rethinking Participation as Polycentric Engagement<\/strong> (Glass Room)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This panel gathers the Vienna Office for Participation, the Initiative for Voting Rights for All Residents &#8211; Pass Egal- , and the Festwochen Citizens\u2019 Council to explore how democratic engagement can be redefined in a city where many residents are denied the vote. How do we expand the idea of who counts as a participant in democracy? How do we move from symbolic inclusion to structural change?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>19:00 \u2013 20:00<\/strong><strong><br><\/strong><strong>Assemblies from the Margins<\/strong> (Glass Room)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From protest assemblies in Serbia to autonomous governance in Rojava and activist students in European universities, this conversation brings together practices of radical democracy that emerge in contexts of exclusion and repression. What can mainstream institutions learn from these experiments? How might the margins reshape democracy itself?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>20:00 \u2013 21:30<\/strong><strong><br><\/strong><strong>Democratic Odyssey Civic Arts Interventions<\/strong> (Foyer)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Artistic expressions and performative moments will weave through the foyer, activating themes of democratic imagination and collective care.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>20:30 \u2013 22:00<\/strong><strong><br><\/strong><strong>Free Tapas and Drinks<\/strong> (Bar)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Odyssey participants and the general public are invited to gather, snack, and toast to democracy.
