WHEN: 23rd to 25th of May 2025<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Democratic Odyssey<\/strong> is a traveling transnational assembly advocating for a permanent people\u2019s assembly for Europe as a way to renew and democratize Europe\u2019s political system. The project brings together citizens from across the continent to deliberate on pressing challenges and shape Europe\u2019s future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following months of discussions across different cities, the assembly arrives in Vienna after drafting key recommendations in Florence<\/strong>. As Europe faces increasing polarization\u2014evidenced by declining voter turnout, the rise of far-right populism in some countries, and strong pro-European movements in others\u2014this initiative aims to empower citizens to actively engage in EU decision-making.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What\u2019s Our Plan?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Democratic Odyssey travels across Europe to demonstrate the feasibility of a permanent citizens\u2019 assembly at the EU level. It combines in-person gatherings with online meetings, bringing together participants selected via random lottery for multilingual, transnational deliberations<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83d\udccd Next Stop: Vienna (23-25 May 2025)<\/strong>
<\/strong>After formulating recommendations in Florence, the assembly will meet in Vienna<\/strong> to produce a manifesto or civic charter<\/strong>, outlining a collective vision for a more democratic Europe. This will culminate in a public assembly where politicians and decision-makers will be invited to endorse the process and engage with the proposals<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Call for Participation<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

We are looking for individuals working in civil society organizations (CSOs)<\/strong> to participate in this groundbreaking experiment in deliberation. CSOs have often been overlooked in past citizen assemblies, and at the Democratic Odyssey<\/strong>, we aim to reclaim their rightful space at the table.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
