POLISH & GERMAN BELOW<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Sign our petition & join our solidarity demonstration at the Chancellor\u2019s Office!<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n We are a progressive grassroots alliance of transnational activists and organisations from Berlin. This action was initiated by activists from Poland who volunteered to help refugees coming from Ukraine to find a safe place in our city.<\/span><\/p>\n But at the Berlin Central Station where thousands arrive every day, they are not yet safe. A stone’s throw away from the Chancellor’s Office, we see how local authorities and the German government are sleepwalking their way through a humanitarian crisis – right at the heart of the richest European country. Mothers and their children have to sleep without proper heating. Exhausted volunteer aid workers are scared for their safety. The city government is not responding to calls for more resources for a proper humanitarian response.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n We cannot leave the fate of refugees in the hands of private individuals, NGOs and local governments alone. The European leaders need to show up for the refugees that are reaching our cities and communities, and offer proper support to those who are helping them.<\/strong> Europe is not an NGO, this is the time for the governments to rise to their task.<\/span><\/p>\n In Berlin, like in many cities of Eastern and South-Eastern Europe it\u2019s again the people proving that solidarity has no limits and borders. It is urgent that governments and EU institutions finally live up to the solidarity of their citizens and provide the immediate humanitarian response and appropriate social infrastructure. The war refugees from Ukraine, migrant communities as well as aid workers must be treated with dignity and respect, and not left alone!<\/span><\/p>\n Governments need to act now to prevent further suffering of the refugees fleeing Ukraine. They need to immediately respond to the calls from the volunteers at the Berlin Central Station calling for help with proper security, food and medical assistance (<\/span>see the press release by the local aid organisation \u201cMoabit hilft e.V\u201d<\/span><\/a>). Unless they ramp up their response, the Berlin chaos will be repeated in European cities in the next couple of days. Almost 1,7 million people have already crossed through Poland – many will soon make their journey to other parts of Europe.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The local and federal government need to dedicate additional resources, so that no one has to sleep on the cold train station floor. <\/span>Sign our petition calling on Olaf Scholz and other European leaders to coordinate their European response<\/span><\/a>, so children do not go missing on their way to a new home, and women, people of colour and other vulnerable individuals are safe in their passage.<\/span><\/p>\n We call on all our friends and fellow citizens in cities, communities, and civil society organisations across Europe \u2013 from Porto, Warsaw, Brussels, Paris, London to Przemy\u015bl \u2013 to join us. Let\u2019s call on our governments and the EU to provide the transnational response for all people fleeing the war in Ukraine and those trying their very best to welcome and care for all people in need, here in Berlin and across Europe \u2013 wherever they come from or move to.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n If there\u2019s 100 billion for the German military and talks about a joint European defence policy, then what does it need for federal governments and European institutions to put a priority on the safety and dignity of civilians fleeing the war in Ukraine?<\/span><\/p>\n As this is a decisive moment for the future of Europe, <\/span>on Wednesday, 16 March 2022<\/b><\/a>, we will meet for a solidarity demonstration for refugees and aid workers at at the Chancellor’s Office to demand for a comprehensive European response to the humanitarian crisis right at the doorstep of Chancellor Olaf Scholz’ Office.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Make a donation to support our work<\/a> to promote democracy, equality and culture beyond the nation-state!<\/p>\n <\/p>\n#DoNotLeaveUsAlone<\/b><\/h3>\n
