About the Event<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

In times of geopolitical turbulence and growing democratic challenges, Europe faces a crucial question: Should a Permanent European Citizens\u2019 Assembly<\/a> be established alongside the European Parliament?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

On 14 October, Members of the European Parliament, EU officials, academics, and citizens will gather in Brussels to debate how citizens\u2019 assemblies could strengthen Europe\u2019s democratic fabric and shape the future of democratic innovation worldwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What lessons can we draw from this first part of the Odyssey\u2019s journey? Who are the actors of change that will join this democratic journey? What do MEPs and other stakeholders think about this vision? What lessons from the ongoing Pollinators Assembly? Co-organised by the European Parliament and Democratic Odyssey<\/a><\/strong>, this roundtable will reflect on the outcomes of a year-long democratic experiment across Europe and ask whether a new permanent institution could enrich and scrutinise parliamentary work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Democratic Experiment Across Europe<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The roundtable builds on the Democratic Odyssey<\/mark><\/a>\u2019s pilot Assembly<\/strong>, which brought together 300 randomly selected citizens<\/strong> from across Europe and beyond in Athens, Florence, Vienna, and online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Assembly produced a Citizen\u2019s Charter with 10 democratic pathways<\/strong>, a roadmap calling for the establishment of a Permanent European Citizens\u2019 Assembly<\/strong>. This body would act as a \u201cmagnifying chamber\u201d<\/em>, ensuring that citizen deliberation complements the work of elected representatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
