All they knew was how to find more &amp; bigger plants to eat and more &amp; bigger caves to hide in.<\/p>\n<p>While they were desperately\u00a0<strong>trying different ways to provision themselves<\/strong>, they came across a method that created heat to warm themselves up and make particular types of food digestible. It&#8217;s what we now know as&#8230;fire..They then realised they could use fire to improve tools to hunt and fix things&#8230;and the rest is history.<br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/2pcGGKtPpSE\" height=\"315\" width=\"560\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>But they would never have been able to find out how to make fire if they hadn&#8217;t started by rubbing two pieces of wood together to create friction.<\/p>\n<p>Returning to the 21st century, making has been given a new lease of life from &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/1dn7LJ6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">stitch and bitch parties<\/a>&#8221; to &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/JRycKs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">maker faires<\/a>&#8220;. Through making, you&#8217;re connecting, whether it&#8217;s rubbing wood together to make fire or putting different components together to develop an app.<\/p>\n<p>As @davidgauntlett\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/1cXLT0S\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">argues<\/a>\u00a0&#8220;making things shows us that we are powerful, creative agents \u2013\u00a0<strong>people who can really do things, things that other people can see, learn from, and enjoy<\/strong>. Making things is about transforming materials into something new, but it is also about transforming one\u2019s own sense of self.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>As @stanforddschool\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/oRnzXK\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">states<\/a>\u00a0\u201cif a picture is worth a thousand words, a prototype is worth a thousand pictures. It\u2019s a great way to\u00a0<strong>have a di\ufb00erent kind of conversation and break a big issue into smaller problems &amp; opportunities<\/strong>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Making outcomes<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>So when thinking about a session that you&#8217;d like to run at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/outcomefest\">#outcomefest<\/a>, if you don&#8217;t feel like facilitating a discussion, here are some other ways that you can &#8220;make&#8221; outcomes happen.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. If\u00a0you like to be more visual, then you may want to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/18haU82\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">sketch out<\/a><span style=\"color: #666666;\">\u00a0<\/span>the issues, like this systems map about personal data ownership &amp; privacy<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5846\" alt=\"resize\" src=\"https:\/\/euroalter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/resize.jpeg\" width=\"490\" height=\"363\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>2.
