{"id":5221,"date":"2012-06-16T13:23:20","date_gmt":"2012-06-16T11:23:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/euroalter.local\/?p=5221"},"modified":"2012-06-16T13:23:20","modified_gmt":"2012-06-16T11:23:20","slug":"escapes-conference-transits-barriers-freedoms-seeking-refuge-in-the-mediterranean-and-in-europe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/euroalter.com\/fr\/escapes-conference-transits-barriers-freedoms-seeking-refuge-in-the-mediterranean-and-in-europe\/","title":{"rendered":"ESCAPES Conference \u201cTransits, barriers, freedoms: seeking refuge in the Mediterranean and in Europe\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>EA will participate in the first ESCAPES\u00a0official conference \u201cTransits, barriers, freedoms: seeking refuge in the Mediterranean and in Europe\u201d to be held at the University of Milan on April 10th and 11th, 2014.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/users2.unimi.it\/escapes\/\">ESCAPES<\/a> is a research group based at the University of Milan with the aim of investigating different aspects of migration, paying special attention to the experiences of those who are usually included in the category of <strong>forced migration<\/strong>: asylum seekers, refugees and subsidiary protection holders, internally displaced persons, stateless persons and others forced to flee or to leave their countries or places of habitual residence.<\/p>\n<p>This two-day event will open with a series of international panels, starting with an opening session focusing on <strong>Syria <\/strong>and the refugee crisis with contributions from the following speakers: <strong>Guita Hourani<\/strong> (Notre Dame University \u2013 Louaize, Lebanon), <strong>Madeline Garlick<\/strong> (Head of the Policy and Legal Support Unit at the UNHCR European Bureau) and <strong>Roger Zetter<\/strong> (Refugee Studies Centre, University of Oxford).<\/p>\n<p>A round-table on the <strong>asylum system<\/strong> in Italy run by <strong>Daniela Di Capua <\/strong>(Director of SPRAR and Head of the Delegated Authority for the European Refugee Fund, Central Service of the Protection System for for Asylum Seekers and Refugees), <strong>Laura Cantarini<\/strong> (UNHCR, Territorial Commission of Trapani, Italy), <strong>Roberto Guaglianone <\/strong>(Regional Coordination Asylum in Lombardy Region) and <strong>Paola Ottaviano<\/strong> (Borderline Sicily) will then follow.<\/p>\n<p>The second day will be open with a plenary session with <strong>Nando Sigona <\/strong>(University of Birmingham) and <strong>Enrica Rigo<\/strong> (University of Roma Tre), discussing the <strong>narratives of exile and belonging<\/strong> entitled \u201c<strong><em>The Politics of Voice<\/em><\/strong>\u201d and will conclude with 7 different panels (some of them at the same time) where more than thirty papers submitted by scholars from different disciplines and accepted in response to the <a href=\"http:\/\/users2.unimi.it\/escapes\/wp-content\/uploads\/call-for-papers-conf-escapes3.pdf\">call for papers<\/a> published in January 2014, including Anna Lodeserto, who will present her research work \u201c<strong><em>Walls and borders of Europe: the challenges and limits of the freedom of movement<\/em><\/strong>\u201d at the ESCAPES conference as part of the \u201c<strong>Institutions of the Frontier<\/strong>\u201d sub-session.<\/p>\n<p>You can find a detailed <a href=\"http:\/\/users2.unimi.it\/escapes\/wp-content\/uploads\/Locandina.jpg\">programme<\/a> of the conference <a href=\"http:\/\/gallery.mailchimp.com\/a19a681ca72107aabac849598\/files\/Transiti_barriere_libert_ESCAPES_Milan14_.pdf\">HERE<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-5222\" alt=\"Locandina def\" src=\"https:\/\/euroalter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Locandina-def-723x1024.jpg\" width=\"723\" height=\"1024\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Participation in the conference is free, but <strong>registration<\/strong> is required by <ins>April 4th, 2014<\/ins>.
