Migreurop<\/a>, European Alternatives and the Observatoire de l\u2019enfermement des \u00e9trangers<\/em><\/a> (OEE, France) are currently working to organise an international meeting around migrants\u2019 detention in Europe and the Mediterranean Region. The event is set to take place in Paris at the CISP Maurice Ravel on Friday, December 6th, under the title \u201cMigrant Detention in Europe and Beyond: What perspectives?<\/strong><\/a>\u201d within the framework of the \u201cOpen Access Now<\/a>\u201d Campaign.<\/p>\n

European Alternatives, as partner organisation, has been working on the defence of migrants\u2019 rights<\/strong> and the free movement of citizens for many years. This area of work culminated over the last two years in the coordination and implementation of transnational campaigns on administrative detention and the role of civil society organisations and media in reporting the conditions of refugees, asylum seekers and migrants \"\"held in administrative detention <\/strong>in many EU Member States. This was done mainly through the \u201cOpen Access Now\u201d campaign (officially launched with Migreurop in 2011), as well as through the participation in 2011 to the \u201cLasciateCIEntrare<\/a>\u201d\u00a0broad-based coalition of Italian associations calling for access to detention centres – known as \u201cCIE\u201d in Italy – for journalists and CSOs against the suspension and restrictions on the right to information<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The Paris Forum is intended for all those involved in any aspect of campaigning and informing about immigration detention<\/strong> and challenging detention policy and practice. It will offer the opportunity to look at various critical issues related to migrants\u2019\u00a0detention in key European and Mediterranean countries and will critically assess civil society actions in the mobilisation of public awareness around these problems, especially after the latest migrant boat disaster off Lampedusa<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

On this date, a first version of the \u201cDynamic Map<\/a>\u201d of detention camps for \u2018foreigners\u2019\u00a0in Europe and Mediterranean Countries, a participatory project which is currently being worked on by the cartography group within the Migreurop Network<\/a>, will also be presented to the public.<\/p>\n

Journalists who are taking part in \u201cOpen Access Now\u201d transnational campaign, those who are engaged in the mobilisation led by the \u201cLasciateCIEntrare\u201d coalition in Italy, those who participated in the Open Access Parliamentary Visits 2013<\/a> or earlier, and some representatives from Reporters Without Borders<\/a> will take part in the event.<\/p>\n

The meeting consists of two parts as follows: two round-tables (in the morning) and four working groups (in the afternoon) dealing with new challenges regarding:<\/p>\n
